WHAT SHALL I RENDER UNTO THE LORD?
Read Psalms 116:1-14
1 I love the LORD, because He has heard My voice and my supplications.
2 Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.
3The pains of death surrounded me, And the pangs of Sheol laid hold of me; I found trouble and sorrow.
4 Then I called upon the name of the LORD: “O LORD, I implore You, deliver my soul!”
5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; Yes, our God is merciful.
6 The LORD preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me.
7 Return to your rest, O my soul, For the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.
8 For You have delivered my soul from death, My eyes from tears, And my feet from falling.
9 I will walk before the LORD In the land of the living.
10 I believed, therefore I spoke, “I am greatly afflicted.”
11 I said in my haste, “All men are liars.”
12 What shall I render to the LORD For all His benefits toward me?
13 I will take up the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of the LORD.
14 I will pay my vows to the LORD Now in the presence of all His people.
What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me? (Psalms 116:12)
Giving gifts to the rich people might cost you a headache sometimes. A man of God once wanted to buy a gift for a very rich man who was going to host him as he was on holiday. The host needed no suits, money, clothes, actually, nothing that the man of God could afford. The man of God had to ask a friend of his who knew the host better than he did. The friend said, “Buy him a P.G. Tea!” On giving the tea to the host, he was so excited, and exclaimed in Yoruba, “Emi ni kan tan!” (Just for me!)
Sometimes, we may be wondering like David, “What shall I give unto the Lord? He is rich in wisdom and understanding than anything one can imagine! He is mighty in power than all imaginations! He is before all things and by His power, He has made all things!” Is it money you want to give Him? Of course, silver and gold are His (Hag. 2:8)! Do you intend giving Him sacrifices? All animals of the field belong to Him!
Many people are giving God what He does not need and value. Like Cain’s offering, God rejects them. If you are not a Christian and you want to appreciate God, and you ask, “What shall I render unto the Lord?” give Him your heart-your innermost personality, involving your emotions and affections (Prov. 23:26). Accept Jesus into your heart today, as your personal Lord and Saviour.
Also, God expects you to do what David resolved to do in Psalms 116:13-14: ‘I will take up the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows to the Lord now in the presence of all His people’. Will you let people know how He has saved, helped, and stood by you? What vow did you make when you were in trouble? Have you fulfilled it now that the Lord has done His own part? Never forget how bountifully the faithful Lord has dealt with you.
- Give thanks to the Lord Who has preserved your life up till this moment.
- Ask God to forgive you for delaying giving Him your heart before now, most especially, if you are yet to give Him your heart before now.
- Pray that the Spirit of the Lord would help our children and youths to the Lordship of Jesus Christ early in their lives before the devil takes hold of them.
