Ministry Gifts

Ephesians 4:11-12 “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.”
1 Corinthians 12:28 “And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.”

Ministry gifts are ministers or people ordained by God before the foundation of the world to be a blessing to us in the teaching of God’s Word, to build us up into the fulness of Christ’s image. These ministry gifts are actually five (5) according to Ephesians 4:11, namely: Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers. Why did the Lord give ministry gifts to His body? The Word tells us in Ephesians 4:12-13 that it is, for the perfecting or maturation of the saints, that we might do the work of ministry and be edified altogether; till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.

Therefore, ministry gifts are meant to perfect the body of saints, bringing us unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. Evidently, we cannot reach maturity in Christ without ministry gifts, for which purpose they are given. Hence, we ought to receive and treasure them as gifts sent from God to us. We don’t despise them; we honour and highly esteem their ministry to us.

We must not despise the Apostolic, the Prophetic, the Evangelistic, the Pastoral and Teaching dimensions of God’s grace through ministry gifts with which the Lord has blessed us in Christ. When you get born again, you should not sit down at home and say you have a pastor on TV who pastors and teaches you the Word. You must belong in and to a local assembly where there is a literal ministry gift there, feeding and blessing you with God’s Word.

Don’t say “Well, I don’t need to go to Church, I’m not cut out for church life; attending meetings, being part of a subgroup or unit, or ministry. I just want to serve God; I just love God, and I will serve Him my own way at home.” No, a thousand times, no! The Bible tells us not to forsake the assembly of ourselves together as the manner of some is; and that’s bad mannerism. You must be part of a local assembly where you are led to by the Spirit, and where you receive the ministry of a ministry gift: an apostle, a prophet, an evangelist, a pastor and a teacher. By the Word taught or preached through them, we come to maturity in Christ. This is how we enter into the fulness of our inheritance in Christ.

My Solid Front (Confession)Heavenly Father, I thank You for the blessings in ministry gifts for me. In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I receive their ministry unto perfection and entry into the fulness of my inheritance in Christ Jesus. Amen.
