Your Mouth is the Bridle of Your Life by Pastor Segun Obadje

The Leverage Friday 18th January 2019

James 3:2 “For in many things we all offend. If anyone does not offend in word, the same is a full-grown man, able also to bridle the whole body. .”

Matthew 12:34 ” Offspring of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”

Today’s opening verse speaks to a profound subject in the Bible. It says, “For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.” This means we may offend in many things, but if we offend not in word, we are perfect, and able also to bridle the whole body. The mouth then is the bridle of the whole body; it is the bridle of our entire life. What we say rules us.

Your confession rules your life, your times and seasons. Your words have become the bridle or steer of your life. You are actually going in the direction of your mouth. Your mouth is charting the course of your life; not the enemy, but your mouth. Therefore, you must take responsibility for your mouth and the words that proceed from it, by the power of the Holy Spirit. You must never let any corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying that it may minister grace to the hearers.

Beloved, no matter the situation you are in, you must be sure of what you believe, and you must let your mouth align with what your heart believes. Learn to say only what you believe. If you believe that God is with you, and that He is your very present Help in trouble, why are you saying that you do not know how the situation will be resolved?

Is God not your very present Help in time of trouble? What do you really believe? Do you believe that the situation will overwhelm you? Do you believe that you will not come out on the other side victorious?  Do you believe that the devil has the final say in your situation? If you don’t believe that, why say something of doubt and of hopelessness?  You don’t have to say what you don’t believe.

Place Your Advert Here

To say what your heart doesn’t believe is to deny your faith; that is hypocrisy. If you don’t believe it, do not say it. Don’t say you were only joking, or that it was a slip of the tongue; don’t let your tongue slip.  Make sure your tongue gives expression to what is in your heart.  The Bible says in Matthew 12:34 that “…Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” So, let your mouth speak that which is in your heart. This is the discipline of faith. Glory to God! You have to learn the vocabulary of faith and speak in line with what you believe.  The Word of God has taken root in your heart, now go ahead and say the things that God has put in your heart.

My Solid Front (Confession):

I declare in Jesus Name, according to what I believe in my heart that the Lord has gone ahead of me, He’s made the crooked places straight, He’s smoothened the rough places. I believe that I have the final say in every situation because God has given me the dominion. Amen.
