The Vital Side of Christ’s Substitution for Us
Isaiah 53:4; 2 Corinthians 5:21
2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
The substitutionary work of Christ for man was wrought all by Himself without us. It was God at work in Christ on our behalf. Christ took our place so that we might take His place. However, a lot of Christians have not yet entered into the experience of what Christ has done for them. Many have not entered into the experience of the finished work of Christ because of ignorance of what He has done for them. Another reason why some believers are not experiencing what Christ has done for them is that they are ignorant of the fact that there is the legal side and a vital side of salvation, and that there is a connection to both of them. The legal side ought to bring you into the vital side. The legal side is what Christ did for you in His substitutionary work. The vital side is experiencing the legal side of salvation or redemption. For instance, Jesus bore your infirmities in His own body on the Cross, that you might live in health. He took your poverty that you might take His riches. The legal side of our redemption forms the premise for the vital side. The legal side is the essence of our salvation, but the vital side is the dynamics or experience of our salvation.
There are many Christians that dwell on the legal side of their salvation without a working knowledge and understanding of moving into the experience or vital side of salvation. Beloved, you ought to transit into the vital side from the legal side of salvation. Once you understand the legal side, it becomes a channel which leads you into the experience of that which Christ has done for you. It is good to know about what Christ has done for you, but that knowledge is not enough. You need to understand how to convert that knowledge into experience. So, knowing what Christ has done for you forms the basis of your identification with Him regarding that very thing. How then do you enter into the vital side of our redemption in Christ? The key to walking in the experience of what Christ has done for us is twofold; Faith and the Ministry of the Spirit. Faith, here, is believing and acting on the Word, while the ministry of the Spirit is the revelation and the manifestation of the Spirit with respect to the Word. Let the Holy Spirit reveal the Word to you as you give yourself to prayers and meditation in the Word. Be a doer of the Word. Put the Word to work and it will deliver to you what it talks about.
SOLID FRONT (YOUR CONFESSION): In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I declare that I am open to the ministry of the Holy Spirit and that I am a doer of the Word. I believe the Word and act upon it!
Further Meditation: Romans 5:1; 1 Peter 3:18.
