TOPIC: RESOLUTION OF THE RECHABITES
TEXT: JEREMIAH 35:1-10
MEMORY VERSE: “Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever” (JEREMIAH 35:19).
"A man who gives himself to the demon of alcohol becomes a slave to its addictive properties. It mocks him. It steals his identity. It takes control of his will," says Ray Comfort. Jonadab knew this. The Rechabites were a nomadic tribe related to the Kenites and to Jethro, Moses' father-in-law (Judges 1:16; 1 Chronicles 2:55). Though the Commandment not to drink wine was given by Jonadab, their father, more than 200 years before that episode, the Rechabites remained faithful. Many fall flat whenever temptations come through respected personalities, because they are unable to say no! Not so the Rechabites! They were willing to displease the prophet than hurt their collective conscience, and were graciously rewarded by God. God is looking for faithful men and women today, who will not yield to temptation because of money, gifts, pleasure, entertainments or applause of men. Inability to take a righteous stance when temptations come has made many Christians to lose favour with God. However, God will never forsake the faithful in temptation. So, fight the good fight of faith; His grace is sufficient for you.
QUOTE: God will never forsake the faithful.
CHALLENGE: They displeased Prophet Jeremiah to retain their collective good conscience.
PRAYER: Lord, give me grace to stand when I am tempted.
