Saturday 15th December 2018

Read: Numbers 25:1-5

[1]And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.[2]And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.[3]And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.[4]And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.[5]And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.

MEMORISE: And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons; and they served their gods (Judges 3:6).

The friend you keep determines many things in your life. It determines whom you are and determines your future. A man of understanding said that when you are keeping friendship with someone, you eventually become like that person after five years of moving together. If the person is good, you become good and if the person is bad, you become bad. To any person you keep friendship with, the law of influence has to work. One person must influence another. The influence might be godly or satanic. Accordingly to the key text of this devotional lesson, we realize that the downfall of the children of Israel resulted from one major factor: These people dwelt among the people of foreign nations. The influence of their friendship appeared in two different ways: They intermarried with them, and later served their gods. Relationship in any form has power to reform or deform you. I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people (1 Cor. 5:9).

As a Christian, it is up to you to watch people you keep company with. There are relationships you cannot choose and there are relationships you can choose. You cannot choose your biological parents. We all come to this world through our parents. But you can choose your spouse, friends and associates. The more you go deep in relationship with someone, the more you become like-minded with him or her. What can you say about the people you keep company with now? Are they true children of God? Can your movement with them add value to your life? Here is the warning to you if you are already in a wrong company (2 Cor. 6:14, 15&17).

As a Christian, you can relate with unbelievers on the basis of winning their souls for Christ. You should not have uncontrollable deeper relationship with them. Light and darkness are not the same. Therefore, make sure you always mind your friendship.

1. I ask for the discerning of spirit to discover the agents of the devil and overcome, in Jesus’ name.
2. I pray for strong decision to break up all wrong relationships in my life, in Jesus’ name.
3. We pray for all Christian students in our higher institutions to do away with ungodly friendships.
