TOPIC: BEHOLD AND BECOME
TEXT: “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness” (Psalm17:15).
The Psalmist in our text today declared his desire to be close to God to have God’s character qualities transferred to him. He wanted to be like Him in goodness, righteousness, holiness, love, etc. It was not the sinful passion of Lucifer to be like God or the type that made Adam and Eve to eat of the forbidden fruit.
The Bible teaches conformity to the Divine nature as revealed in Jesus Christ. While the fullness of Christ may not be fully realized now, as “it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2), the process of conformity has begun.
And as you behold his face through prayers and meditations on the scriptures, you are transformed into his likeness. “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
CHALLENGE: The process of conformity has begun.
PRAYER: O to be like thee, blessed Redeemer.
FURTHER READING: 2 Corinthians 3:11-18.
QUOTES: We shall be like him.
