Experiencing the Word of Life

1 John 1:1-5; 2 Peter 1:16.

1 John 1:1 “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life.”

The opening verse opens with a note of revelation that John had regarding the Word of life, Christ Jesus Himself. John opens the epistle by revealing to us his personal experience of the Word of life. John says “…that which was from the beginning, stating that the Word of life was in existence in the beginning. He then tells that he had heard the Word of life, he had seen Him, he had looked upon Him, and his hands had handled Him. Evidently, John was talking about his personal experience and encounter with the Word of life. This shows that one can have a personal experience and encounter with the Word of God. You can experience the Word; you can come to know the Word personally! That’s true Christian experience. We are not meant to know God just by letter, that is, what we were told by others about God, or what we have read about God in books; but we are meant to know God by revelation and a personal experience of Him. God has not called us into head knowledge of Him, but He has called us into a personal fellowship with Him, He has called us into a personal walk with Him, for our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ (1 John 1:3). Understand that Christianity is not a religion; it is a personal walk with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The knowledge of God begins with knowing Christ Jesus at salvation but it doesn’t end there. When you got born again, you were initiated into the realm of knowing God intimately. You are meant to make the most of the grace of God in Christ Jesus in the pursuit of knowing God intimately. How? You are meant to learn the Word of God in a local assembly, a local Church through your Pastor, and further study the Word for yourself personally. Whatever the Word reveals to you regarding God is exactly the truth about Him. You are meant to take that revelation or truth to the place of prayer with a desire to have a personal encounter with God one on one. You don’t just learn the Word and leave it at that, no! You learn the Word and go for a personal experience of what the Word says by acting on the Word, by living out the Word, by singing, praying and confessing the Word back to God with a desire in prayers. When you do this, the Word will become your personal experience and the knowledge of God will come home to you. That’s how to enter into the experiential knowledge of God and that’s how to have a personal walk with God. Hallelujah!

SOLID FRONT (YOUR CONFESSION): In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I walk in the personal revelation and encounter with the Word. I am a child of God and I have a personal relationship with my heavenly Father in Jesus’ Name!

Further Meditation: 1 Corinthians 1:9; 1 John 1:3-9.
