BEST PLACE FOR YOUR PAST IS BEHIND

TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 3:13-16

MEMORY VERSE: “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before” (PHILIPPIANS 3:13).

If you are haunted by and tied to your past, you will find it difficult to make progress in life. Paul, in our Bible text today, knew that he had a bad and good past, but he had to forget them and press forward for greater goals. He persecuted and conspired with others to kill Christians, but that persecutor ‘died’ on the way to Damascus. He was now a new man in Christ. Zig Zigla said, “Don’t judge me by my past; I don’t live there anymore.” Apostle Paul left the past behind him. Beloved, where is your past? Maybe you were abused, maltreated or neglected by those who were supposed to help you. Possibly you were actually notorious for a lot of bad things – stealing, fighting, disobedience, indolence and immoral acts.

If you are now born again and have stopped all sinful practices, do not carry about the stigma. You have repented, and God has forgiven you; so you must forgive yourself and your offenders, and move on in life. In all areas of life, hold on to Jesus and press on.

QUOTE: Do not carry about the stigma.

CHALLENGE: Your future is not in the past.

PRAYER: Holy Father, enable me to leave the past behind me.
