YOU ARE TREASURED BY GOD
KEY VERSE: “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well” (PSALM 139:14).
BIBLE TEXT: PSALMS 139:14-18
One of the greatest temptations people easily fall into is to yield to the pressures of life and condition themselves to what other people think about them.
This brings loss of self-esteem, self-pity, and loss of self-confidence. Above all, it could result in the distrust of God and His promises, as well as His ability to accomplish anything significant in their lives.
Tempting as this may be for David who wrote this psalm, he was quick to shrug off all things that could distract him from focusing on God and recognising the special place He has reserved for His children. He praised God for creating him, recognising that he was “fearfully and wonderfully made.” He never lost sight of the fact that God knows about him, created him secretly in an unexpected place, saw and knew about all that was happening to him. Even though he considered himself imperfect when compared to the holy God, the Lord was still mindful enough to diligently keep a record of his life and to continue His recreative work in him. He was lost in wonderment at the precious thoughts of God towards him, and proclaimed, “O God! how great is the sum of them!”
We must face the challenges of life with the understanding that the all-knowing and all-seeing God is fully acquainted with our trials and temptations, triumphs and successes. He took special care to create every one of us and He thinks of us constantly. When tempted by the problems of life to fall into self-pity or even self-hate, we must remember that we are God’s peculiar creatures and we are of value in His sight.
God has given us the greatest gift of allowing us know Him and to know He is good and faithful. No matter what happens, He cares about us.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When tempted to belittle your worth, remember you bear the image of the almighty God.
