PRAY FOR YOUR NATION
TEXT: GENESIS 41:25-45
KEY VERSE: “Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt” (GENESIS 41:33).
Famine has been a common phenomenon in human history since the time of Abraham. Nations have experienced famines and other catastrophic events. For instance, the Great Famine_ of 1315 – 1317 AD is recorded to have killed millions across Europe. Pharaoh had a dream in which God graciously revealed the coming seven years of famine to be preceded by seven years of prosperity. Pharaoh looked for a man who could interpret the dream but found none until Joseph was brought to him. Guided by the Spirit of God, he interpreted the dream and became instrumental in averting the adverse effects of the famine. God used him to save the lives of millions of people in Egypt and around the world at that time.
God has placed believers across the nations to be the solution providers to the various challenges in the world. But we can only fight and crush these challenges that threaten the peace, growth, survival, and security of nations through prayer. Prayer is a powerful and irresistible weapon believers can use to bring salvation, provision, and peace to a sinful and suffering world. It has been said, “Prayer changes things.” Believers must, therefore, pray for their nation. The Scripture urges us to pray “For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty” (1 Timothy 2:2). We are to pray that God will place wise, visionary and selfless men like Joseph in strategic positions in both secular and church leadership. We will witness great spiritual revival, peace, security and economic prosperity when we pray fervently and effectively for our nation.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Interceding for your nation is a compelling duty that draws blessings to you and others.
