MEMORISE
This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him (John 2:11).
READ
John 2:1-11
[1]. On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.
[2]. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.
[3]. And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”
[4]. Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.”
[5]. His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
[6]. Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece.
[7]. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.
[8]. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it.
[9]. When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom.
[10]. And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”
[11]. This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
EXPOSITION
In John 2:1-11, Jesus turns failure into success at a wedding feast in Cana. The hosts run out of wine, which is a big problem. Jesus’ mother, Mary, then tells Him about it. At first, it seems as if Jesus isn’t going to help, but He tells the servants to fill six large stone jars with water. Is there any correlation between getting new wine for the guests and filling the jars with water? God moves in mysterious ways. The servants do as they are told, and when they take some of the water to the master of the feast, it has turned into the best wine he has ever tasted. Everyone at the party is happy, and the hosts are saved from embarrassment.
This story teaches us a few things. Firstly, it shows that failure is not always the end. The downfall of a man isn’t the end of his life. God can turn things around and bring success even when it seems impossible. We should never lose hope or doubt God’s ability to perform miracles. Secondly, this story teaches us the importance of obedience. The servants could have ignored Jesus’ strange request, but they followed His instructions without questioning. As a result, they were parts of a miracle that changed the celebration. Lastly, this story reminds us that God cares about every aspect of our lives. He is interested in our joy and struggles, and He is always ready to help us. Just like the hosts at the wedding feast, we can trust God to provide for our needs and bring us joy in difficult times. He is capable (cf. Psa. 24:1ff)!
PRAYER POINTS
1. Father, as You have revealed Your glory in Christ Jesus, let Your glory be revealed in my life and ministry, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, fill me with Your Holy Spirit that I may bring You glory in all that I do and speak.
3. Pray for CAC Orekoya Region, our father in the Lord, the Regional Superintendent, and other officers at the various levels as led by the Spirit of God.
