CARELESS AND GODLESS LEADERS
READ: Exodus 14:21-31
MEMORISE
And Pharaoh said, who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, nor will I let Israel go (Exodus 5:2).
EXPOSITION
Godless and careless leaders are characteristically heartless and wicked. They lack respect for God and His things. They also take their own subjects for granted. They are hard-hearted, egoistic, and always trying to seek their own glory above God and the people’s welfare. They are profligate and corrupt managers of resources, and would rather sacrifice the people’s will and lives for their own selfish ends than for them to step down or resign from their positions honourably. They are simply prodigal and incorrigible! These are the particular Pharaohs that are careless about the past, and so are bound to repeat the evil in history. They are those that *knew not Joseph.* They are the stubborn, who, despite seeing the signs of divine visitation and warnings, would still continue to say: *Who is the LORD that I should obey His voice?* Pharaoh was given every opportunity to know God and make peace with Him. His several pleas for redress were granted, after the attendant woes he suffered through divine judgements. He was aware of, and a living witness to the utter helplessness and failure of the gods of Egypt, and that of the magicians, who even warned him, *this is the finger of God!* (Exod. 8:19). Yet, he and his evil hosts eventually ended up in the belly of the Red Sea, since he was unrepentantly stubborn.
Let this be a good lesson and sure warning to all leaders of nations, communities and organisations, churches inclusive, who are careless about the people’s welfare and cries for betterment, and defy the Living God while relying on the arms of flesh and powers of darkness through occultism and sorcery. Don’t wait to experience what became of the recalcitrant Pharaoh!

1. Thank God who rules over all.
2. Pray for your leaders, especially the wicked ones that God would give them repentant hearts
3. Lord, bring down everyone in position of authority oppressing the less privileged in the land.
4. Oh, Lord, in this year, 2023, let there be peace in Nigeria and all over the world. AMEN
