YOU AND YOUR PROPHET
Read: John 5:1-15
[1]After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
[2]Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
[3]In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
[4]For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
[5]And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
[6]When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
[7]The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
[8]Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
[9]And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
[10]The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
[11]He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
[12]Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
[13]And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
[14]Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
[15]The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
MEMORISE: Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets and you shall prosper (2 Chronicles 20:20).
EXPOSITION
How would the woman of Shunem, who conceived after many years of childlessness, and experienced the restoration of life to her only son, ever forget the impact of Elisha in her life and family? The same thing goes for the family of Martha, Mary and their brother, Lazarus. They can never forget Jesus Christ, the Restorer of life (2 kgs.4:8ff; Jn. 11:1f).
Prophet in the context of today’s Living Water is anyone that is sent to you by God, who has solution to what you are going through. He is that man or woman, a minister of God, divinely raised to bless your life, ministry, and home. Have you recognised that person that has the God-given solution to your problem? If there is none like that in your life, you might have to struggle through your life. You need to ask God to help you to recognise your destiny helpers. There are many examples of such helpers of destiny in the Bible. The young Hebrew girl, who met herself in Syria, happened to be a help to Naaman and his household. God forbids that Naaman disparaged her advice to go to Israel would he have got the much needed cleansing from his leprosy (2 kgs 5:1ff)? Abraham would have died childless, if not for his wholesome attitude to the visitors, the angels, who came in human form. He would have missed his miracle, if he was like many of us today, with our nonchalant attitude to the things of God. You will not be wanting in your day of visitation in Jesus’ name. The man at the pool merely addressed Jesus, his would-be healer, mister, because he did not know that He was his Prophet. Unlike this man, you need to recognise Jesus, as your Lord, and the Deliverer ofyour soul, before it is too late, and be ready to cooperate with those He is sending to help you out of your circumstances.
SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY: CAC GHB 532
1. Jesus, who lived above the sky,
Came down to be a Man and die.
And in the Bible we may see
How very good He used to be.
2. He went about – He was so kind
To cure poor people who were blind;
And many who were sick and lame.
He pitied them and did the same.
3. And more than that, He told them, too,
The things that God would have them do;
And was so gentle and so mild,
He would have listened to a child.
4. But such a cruel death He died!
He was hung up and crucified!
And those kind Hands that did such good
They nailed them to a Cross of wood.
5. And so He died! – and this is why
He came to be a Man and die!
The Bible says He came from Heaven
That we might have our sins forgiven.
6. He knew how wicked man had been,
And knew that God must punish sin;
So, out of pity, Jesus said
He’d bear the punishment instead.
Amen.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, come quickly to help me.
2. Do not allow me to be blindfolded to those destiny helpers around me.
3. Deliver as many as possible who have fallen victims of fake prophets, O Lord.
