DISCIPLINE AND DILIGENCE

TEXT: JOHN 9:1-9

MEMORY VERSE: “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” (JOHN 9:4).

Jesus Christ exemplified all the principles of success. He expressed a strong interest in His God-given assignment. He called it “my meat.” This is desire. As soon as He began His earthly ministry, He identified His main objective – “to seek and save that which was lost.” This is determination. He was committed to that one task, “the works of him that sent me.” This is discipline. He was ready to exert Himself, spend and be spent – “I must work.” This is diligence. He drew His strength from the resources provided by His Father in heaven – “The Son can do nothing of himself.” This is dependence. No wonder within a space of three and a half years, His work was done and He declared, “It is finished.”

True success in any endeavour would be a mirage or mere wishful thinking without application of these time-tested principles. A youth who is craving for a resounding and lasting success in life cannot do without discipline. He must be ready to subdue self, control his desires and say no to certain comforts in order to achieve his set goals.

QUOTE: Be ready to subdue self.

CHALLENGE: Success is a mirage without discipline and diligence.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be diligent.
