WORKS AND THE LOT OF THE WICKED

BIBLE TEXT: PROVERBS 3:25-33

MEMORY VERSE: “The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just” (PROVERBS 3:33).

The Book of Proverbs typically deals in contrasts: contrast between two categories of people – the wise and the foolish, the humble and the haughty, the diligent and the lazy, the righteous and the wicked. It also contrasts two different outcomes – wealth and poverty, promotion and demotion, life and death, blessings and curses.

Our text today presents two of such contrasts – the wicked and the just. It also presents their end – curses and blessings. In dealing with mankind, God promises either blessings or curses, depending on one’s attitude and disposition towards the commandment of God. The wicked are identified by their works. According to our text, they are selfish, oppressive, inconsiderate and mischievous. The curse of God simply means a divine judgment against sin. It means God’s displeasure, disapproval and discontent. It has physical, spiritual and eternal implications. All sinners are living under the curse of God. The proper response to the judgment of God is repentance and restitution. In Christ, all curses are revoked and the sinner is justified through faith. The just is qualified to receive the blessings of God.

QUOTE: In Christ, all curses are revoked.

CHALLENGE: The proper response to God’s judgment is repentance.

PRAYER: Help me, Lord, to live for You.
