TOPIC: WAITING ON GOD

Psalms 37:7-9; Isaiah 40:31

Psalms 37: 7-9

7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret— it only causes harm.
9 For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth.

Isaiah 40:31

31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

MEMORISE:
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked shemes to pass (Psalms 37:7)

EXPOSITION
It is inherent for man to be jealous, or envious of anything that is good, adorable, successful, or excellent, irrespective of the source. That is why God expediently admonishes His people with the words of Psalms 37:7,8, so that we are not led astray to seek ungodly means when we consider some people are doing better than we are. This admonition is even more relevant in this generation that people use everything they have, legally and illegally, to ‘oppress’ others. It is a ‘pepper them’ generation, in the parlance of the world today. No wonder, both the young and the old are doing everything, legally and illicitly to get rich at all cost, even if it means cutting extremely short their life spans. The Psalmist exhorts the true children of God to rest in their God, and wait patiently for Him.
Honestly, it is becoming more difficult by the day for so many Christians to wait on God, one of the major reasons being that, many of the people we may be looking up to are not genuine; their successes are dubious, and sometimes diabolical. Hence, they are not worthy to be followed at all. Those who sheepishly follow them end up in the devil’s den. You have to rest in, and wait on God through Christ Jesus, no matter what. Only God gives true, timely and profitable success in line with His purpose, ‘And He adds no sorrow with it’ (Prov. 10:22).
Do not live your life at others’ paces, but God’s pace for you. You are unique (Psa. 139:14). Waiting on God connotes trusting Him for all things, leaning on Him for guidance and direction. Waiting on God is not inactivity or laziness. It is hoping in anticipation of the good purpose of God to be done in your life. Think over the consequence of Abraham’s slight impatience in waiting for God before having Isaac (Gen. 16:1ff). Quick fixes does not help anyone; wait on, and for God!

PRAYER POINTS

  1. Lord, help me to wait for You to bring Your good purposes to pass for me.
  2. Holy Spirit, be my comforter and encourager whenever weariness wants to set in, because of the worries of life.
  3. Pray for CAC Anosike Region, our father in the Lord, the Superintendent, and its officers at the various levels, as led by the Spirit of God.
