LOVE IS THE GREATEST

BIBLE TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 13:1-13

MEMORY VERSE: “And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity” (1 CORINTHIANS 13:13).

In one of his inspirational speeches, Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” This explains why love is the greatest. Believers should know that love is important to human existence, because God Himself is love (1 John 4:16), and He demonstrated that love by giving His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to save the world (John 3:16).

As a believer, God expects you to always act in love, be it towards your neighbour or towards Him, because the Lord identifies every believer by his or her love. Remember that love remains the greatest because only through it does the believer’s faith find its true expression. Do not let envy, hate, jealousy and rage be part of your nature, but strive to reject them daily, while pressing on to grow in the likeness of Jesus. Continue growing in love by being good always to the people around you, even as you desire to grow in faith. It is your only way forward in life.
