Take Charge of Your Thoughts!

2 Corinthians 10:4-5; Proverbs 4:23.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 “(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”

As believers, we have the ability in God to tame thoughts that are contrary to the will of God. God has given you the ability to control and regulate what you think about. No wonder the Apostle Paul by the Spirit admonishes us in Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” There is a boundary line that God’s Word has drawn for you within which your thoughts ought to be confined. God told Joshua “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Joshua 1:8). As a child of God, you are not permitted to allow your mind or thoughts to stray or wander. Don’t permit loose thoughts, rather guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life. You must mount guard over your heart, over the things you feed your mind on, or the things you allow access to your mind.

We have the ability in Christ to tame thoughts that are contrary to the will of God, to cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. You can resist the devil; you can resist the influence of the devil over your mind, and it will lose its grip on you. If there’s a thought coming to your mind that is contrary to the will of God and the devil is trying to drive you to do something silly, you can say, “hey, stop there in the Name of Jesus!” That means you can cast down imaginations. You can bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. Christ has given us the authority over the devil and his demons, so put it to work; use your God-given authority in the Name of Jesus. James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Devils are troublemakers; they don’t want people to live right; instead, they want to exact themselves on human beings and cause them to do things contrary to the will of God. Therefore, we must resist the devil in the Name of the Lord and Scripture says he will flee from us. Another translation says, “he will flee as though in terror.” The moment you notice the feeling, or you notice a trend that is inconsistent with the Word of God, know for sure that there are demonic forces back of it. You must stand your ground, rebuke the devil in the Name of Jesus and he will flee from you.

My Solid Front (Confession): In the Name of Jesus Christ, God has given me authority over Satan and every negative thought he throws at me. I stand my ground against the antiques of the devil in Jesus’ Name!

Further Meditation: 1 Timothy 1:5; 1 Timothy 4:15.
