PERSUADE MEN

BIBLE TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 5:5-14

MEMORY VERSE: “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences” (2 CORINTHIANS 5:11).

Talking about the importance of persuasion in evangelism, a famous and influential English evangelist once said: “A man won by an argument is at the mercy of a better argument. Instead, we must bring people into an experience of Christ.” There is no other better way encountering Christ can be achieved than through persuasion. Unfortunately, this very vital instrument has become a forgotten jewel among modern believers. According to Vine’s Dictionary of New Testament Words, persuasion is the ability, “to prevail upon or win over, to bring about a change of mind by the influence of reason or moral considerations.”

As a believer, you must be patient, humble and kind with those to whom you proclaim and explain the gospel of Christ. Like Gamaliel in Acts 5:33-40, gently present the gospel without ranting, showing relentless intellectual logic and doggedness as you preach. Engage your listener in dialogue, while proving every point from the Scriptures. Spice your persuasion with fervent prayer in order to pave the way for the Holy Spirit to convict people of sin, and lead them to Christ for salvation.

QUOTE: Lead them to Christ for salvation.

CHALLENGE: An effective preacher must be gentle and humble.

PRAYER: Lord, grant me the power and spirit of persuasion.
