BIBLE TEXT: PSALM 34:11-16
MEMORY VERSE: “Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it” (PSALM 34:14).
Peace is a state of tranquillity and calmness of the mind amidst the turmoil and provocative situations in this world. A believer, though in the world, is not of the world because he is not controlled by the principles of the world. It is normal for the people of the world to seek vengeance when there is any provocation, but this is unnecessary for a true child of God who has been commanded to “seek peace and pursue it.” As you relate with people, you will realize that challenges or offences are everywhere. As a child of God, you should be able to forbear and forgive those who offend you.
St Francis of Assisi submitted that, “While you are proclaiming peace with your lips, be careful to have it even more fully in your heart.” This is very instructive as some who claim to be at peace with others go about with bitterness in their hearts towards those people. They appear peaceful physically, but are wicked and unwilling to forgive from their hearts. Allow the Prince of peace fill your heart with His peace.
QUOTE: Forbear and forgive those who offend you.
CHALLENGE: The Prince of peace can fill your heart with peace.
PRAYER: Lord, give me the grace to live peacefully with all men.
