DEVOTION TO THE DELIVERER
TEXT: LUKE 7:44-50
MEMORY VERSE: “Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little” (LUKE 7:47).
It was said by C. H. Spurgeon that, “If we give God service, it must be because He gives us grace. We work for Him because He works in us.” This is confirmed in our Bible text by the devotion shown by the erstwhile notorious woman of easy virtue in a city. Having been delivered from the power of sin by Jesus, she went to the house of a Pharisee where He was a Guest at dinner. Considering her past wretchedness in sin, she, weeping and in humble devotion, washed the feet of Jesus with her tears, cleaned them with her hairs, kissed, and anointed them with a costly ointment. What a loving devotion!
If you have been saved like this woman, how much do you love the Lord? We ought to love and serve Him with our bodies, money, material possessions and gifts instead of pleasing Satan, self and the world with them. Are you a terrible sinner like the woman in our text? She was pardoned and delivered because she repented and trusted in the Deliverer. You should do likewise.
QUOTE: We ought to love and serve Him.
CHALLENGE: If you are saved, be devoted to Christ, our Saviour.
PRAYER: Lord, I come as I am, save my precious soul.
