NEVER GIVE UP ON GREAT GOALS
TEXT: 2 SAMUEL 23:8-12
MEMORY VERSE: “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small” (PROVERBS 24:10).
According to Thomas Edison, who invented the electric light bulb: “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” Between 1878 and 1880, Edison and his team tested 10,000 designs for bulb before eventually succeeding with this important invention.
In our text today, we see the record of exploits by some lion-hearted men who supported David in battles. Despite discouragement caused by the withdrawal of the faint-hearted majority, when the “men of Israel were gone away,” Eleazar, the son of Dodo “smote the Philistines until…the LORD wrought a great victory.” Those who quit earlier were not even listed as members of that army.
Giving up on our goals means losing all the resources invested and missing the victory ultimately. You might have had a burning desire to go to the university to read a course of your dream. That dream is now fizzling out because of either lack of money or not meeting the cut-off mark in the qualifying exam. Do not give up. Pray and try more for success.
QUOTE: Pray and try more for success.
CHALLENGE: Fight on, trusting God, and you will never fail to win.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to fight in faith till the end.
