TOPIC: DRUGS DESTROY
TEXT: PROVERBS 23:29-35
MEMORY VERSE: “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise” (PROVERBS 20:1).
Drug abuse, or substance abuse "refers to the harmful or hazardous use of psychoactive substances, including alcohol and illicit drugs" (WHO).
Use of psychoactive substances can lead to dependence syndrome - a cluster of behavioural, cognitive and physiological phenomena that develop after repeated substance use, manifesting in a strong desire to take the drug, difficulties in controlling its use, and/or persisting in its use, despite harmful consequences (WHO).
Hence, Ray Comfort said, "A man who gives himself to the demon of alcohol becomes a slave to its addictive properties. It mocks him. It steals his dignity. It takes control of his will." Our memory verse addresses the evil consequences of abuse of alcohol or addictive substances, as well as the foolishness of those who indulge in them.
Many youths have ruined their lives with drugs. The drug habit often begins with a seemingly harmless act to impress peers but eventually gets to the point of addiction. Globally, increasing statistics of victims and perpetrators of violent crimes, constitute mostly of young people. Wise youths would avoid becoming part of this statistics.
QUOTE: Many youths have ruined their lives with drugs.
CHALLENGE: Embrace Jesus today and be free from drugs.
PRAYER: Lord, please free our youths from the power of drugs.
