DISCIPLINE IS DESIRABLE
TEXT: HEBREWS 12:5-11
MEMORY VERSE: “Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby” (HEBREWS 12:11).
Chastisement is designed for our good, to promote our highest interest. Even God disciplines His children. However, Arthur W. Pink said, “We must look beyond the rod to the All-wise hand that wields it!”
Beginning with the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act, 1807 to the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on 10th December, 1948, the advent of the era of human rights has, undoubtedly, contributed to the enhancement of the quality of life globally. But, as with many other issues, the depraved heart of man would, unstoppably, stretch boundaries until well-intended ideas become destructive. Thus, today, the world is criminalizing even the simplest forms of correction or chastisement by which parents and guardians may guide their children/wards onto a disciplined and successful life in adulthood.
This is one of the very reasons why the whole world is in confusion today with unprecedented moral decadence. Do not be deceived, “a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.” Eli’s failure to properly discipline his children ruined them totally. Never reject discipline!
QUOTE: Never reject discipline.
CHALLENGE: Believe God, rather than men; accept due chastisement and get wiser.
PRAYER: Father, empower me to submit to due chastisement.
