SERVICE IN SANCTIFICATION
TEXT: 1 THESSALONIANS 4:3-7
MEMORY VERSE: “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication” (1 THESSALONIANS 4:3).
Tim was sure that the city waterworks was now a total failure. Of late, only brownish, foul-smelling water issued out whenever he turned on his tap. Sometimes tiny worms squirmed in it. The water was good for nothing. So, he decided to spearhead a protest to the mayor’s office and it was then he learnt the truth from neighbours: the problem was his alone. He called in a plumber who discovered that his pipes were old, rusty and broken at various points, allowing raw sewage into them. Clean water had been coming from the waterworks all along, but the impurities only came into the pipes at Tim’s backyard. He was shocked, to say the least.
An unsanctified heart is like a dirty water pipe. Without sanctification, the pure water of life flowing from God through the preacher would issue out spiritual dirt. Believers must ensure that their hearts are purified from every inward depravity. Filthiness of the flesh and spirit manifests in pride, jealousy, self-will, impatience and other expressions of the self-life. Jesus is our Sanctifier, cleansing us from self and sin.
QUOTE: Jesus is our Sanctifier.
CHALLENGE: Purging from filthiness precedes God’s success.
PRAYER: Lord, purify my heart to be your holy vessel.
