TEXT: MATTHEW 6:31-34
MEMORY VERSE: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (MATTHEW 6:33).
Earthly treasures do not matter when your life is threatened. Apostle Paul once took an eventful journey to Rome. Sailing together with him on the ship were merchantmen with huge amounts of merchandise and treasures. Then a violent storm arose and their lives were in danger. No one raised a protest when it was time to throw out all their stuff to lighten the ship. Choosing life above treasures was a simple, straightforward decision for every one of them. They knew that, if saved, they would live to acquire wealth or treasure another day. Likewise, earthly treasures do not matter when you come face to face with eternity. Death will surely come to all, but without salvation you will be damned even with all treasures of this world. Many youths pursue fortune and fame at the expense of their eternal welfare.
Jesus commended a wise businessman who chose to exchange all his life’s treasures for one single pearl of great price (Matthew 13:45, 46). If a man dies rich in gold but poor in grace, then pity the man because he is eternally lost.
QUOTE: Eternity awaits us all, death is sure.
CHALLENGE: Eternity with God is better than momentary pleasure.
PRAYER: Lord, give me wisdom to prepare for eternity.
